Vernier Caliper Measurement Worksheet
Physics Laboratory Activity - Multiple Readings
📏 Objective
To measure the length of various objects (eraser, duster, small objects) using Vernier calipers with multiple readings for accuracy and calculate the mean of measurements.
📚 Instructions
How to use Vernier Calipers:
- MSR (Main Scale Reading): Read the main scale value just before the zero of the vernier scale
- VSR (Vernier Scale Reading): Find which vernier scale line coincides with any main scale line
- LC (Least Count): Usually 0.1 mm or 0.02 mm for standard calipers
- Take 3 readings: Measure each object three times for accuracy
- Calculate mean: Final result = (Reading 1 + Reading 2 + Reading 3) / 3
🔬 Formula
Individual Reading = MSR + (VSR × LC)
Mean Reading = (R1 + R2 + R3) / 3
Mean Reading = (R1 + R2 + R3) / 3
